The next sculpture I wanted to discuss is one I made my junior year of high school in my Ceramics and Sculpture class. This was the last project of the semester so we were really pressed for time. I think I sculpted this in only a day or two. Although it was quite a simple and fast project, it was a lot of fun to make. To get the melted ice cream look, I took a ball of clay and slammed it down hard on the table. This partially gave the melted look. I then exaggerated it by adding more “melted-ness” to the outer edges. Next, I carved the mouth and added the sprinkles and eyes. I tried to only use things found on a ice cream cone so the right eye is supposed to be a cherry and the left, an oreo. In hindsight, I probably should have added more oreos around the rest of the cone to not make it so obvious but like I said, I was a little pressed for time. I then made the cone and used wire mesh to create the imprint you see. I attached both parts and added slip (which is very watered down clay) to connect the ice cream to the cone which also made it look like it was melting. Overall, I was pretty satisfied with the final result. Looking back, there were some parts I would have liked to improve upon but for the short amount of time I had, I think it was pretty successful and I had a fun time making it.
